Description
Yttria-stabilized zirconia (YSZ) is a ceramic in which the crystal structure of zirconium dioxide is made stable at room temperature by an addition of yttrium oxide. These oxides are commonly called “zirconia” (ZrO2) and ” Yttria” (Y2O3), hence the name.
Yttria-stabilized zirconia (YSZ) is an important engineering material used in a variety of applications ranging from turbine blade coatings to hydrogen fuel cells. By alloying yttrium (Y) atoms into zirconium oxide (ZrO2), this leads to a stabilization of the cubic fluorite phase or ZrO2, which is normally unstable at low temperatures
Application: Wear, corrosion resistant, and high temperature components, oxygen sensors, coatings, cutting tools, etc.
